Meet Our Director

Billy Smith

Dr. Billy Smith brings over four decades of leadership, service, and dedication to youth development. A proud veteran of both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army, Billy began his educational journey on a baseball scholarship at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, later earning his B.A. in Psychology from Bellevue University in 1988. In 2023, he received an Honorary Doctorate in Christian Education from the School of Great Commission Theological Seminary Bible College. Billy recently retired after 20+ years as the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Afterschool Program Coordinator at Hunter Elementary with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. He now serves as the Preschool Director at True North Learning Academy, where his passion for nurturing the next generation continues to shine.

Deeply involved in the Fairbanks community, Billy has spent over 25 years coaching and leading local and state-level American Legion Baseball programs. His efforts earned him a well-deserved spot in the Fairbanks Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017. Billy is also a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and currently serves as Head Usher at True North Church. Married to his wife Doris for over 30 years, Billy is a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Known for his servant leadership, mentorship, and heart for children, Billy is committed to helping students grow academically, relationally, and spiritually.
